Welcome to my Cramped Kitchen!

Hey guys, first post! Just wanted you all to get a look of what I'm working with here. This is the view from the living room looking into the built in pass through. I find it to be a quaint luxury and the kitchen feels slightly less suffocating. It’s actually more spacious than the 4 bed/4 bath I used to live in with three other girls. Imagine...everyone bringing their own pots, pans, bowls, plates, cups, silverware, and even toasters; basically we failed to communicate and had enough kitchenware for four separate kitchens.

After moving into this new space about a couple weeks ago, my two new roommates and I decided to downsize our load. Now, we don't have cabinets with tupperware parts flying out from the top shelf and some of my baking utensils can finally make it into the kitchen (keeping my food processor in my bedroom closet for the past two years wasn't entirely ideal).

Having lived here for less than a month we are already having a major issue...lighting. The oven light, as shown, is the only fully functional one. Though, we do have that horror movie style flickering fluorescent light. We hope the landlord can grace us with a new light before we are forced to move all of our candles into the kitchen area; romantic, but I don't want to accidentally lose a finger.

Let's not forget the real struggle of a cramped kitchen, having more than one person in there at a time; it’s like a comedy routine. Hands awkwardly reaching into the same drawer, knocking shoulders, almost smacking someone in the face while opening a cabinet...always be prepared, it’s a war zone sometimes.

While fighting in this war zone, I reminisce of better days cooking at home. The beautiful large, open kitchen with solid wood cabinets, smooth black granite counters, an island complete with a sink, and shiny just like new stainless steel appliances. I'm constantly dreaming of my own place and how a spacious kitchen is at the top of my list.

For now, this kitchen gets the job done and I am happy that I have a place to carry out my passion for food regardless of the conditions. I can't wait to start cooking and sharing my stories with you!
